BREATH – A mesmerizing cross-cultural performance by Sevilla-based Iranian-Canadian artist Farnaz Ohadi, who sings in Farsi and recites poetry by Hafez and Rumi, joined by famed dancer Antonio Najarro.
Pellizco – A striking performance by Iván Vargas with Sevillian dance phenom, Nazaret Reyes.
Kintsugi: Flamenco and Healing – a newly commissioned work about resilience through the work of legendary Sevilla-based artist Farruquito, directed by celebrated Madrilenian contemporary dancer and choreographer Ángel Rojas. Please note: This is an off-site performance, presented in partnership with TO Live and commissioned by the Aga Khan Museum for the 2024 Duende Flamenco Festival.
Lola! Gitanos de Jerez – A captivating showcase programmed by Mario Gonzalez, evoking the essence of La Guarida del Angel in Jerez.
The 10th edition of this festival explores an art form that emerged in Al Andalus and is influenced by the 800 years of Muslim rule in Iberia. It is an art form that retains its historical influences from Rajasthan and Sindh through the Balkans, Ottoman Turkey, and North Africa. This year we focus on the Roma communities and families where flamenco began and is preserved.
Attend all three on-site performances at the Aga Khan Museum for $144 and receive a special link for 20% off tickets to Kintsugi: Flamenco and Healing (off-site performance) on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Bluma Appel Theatre (27 Front St. E., Toronto).
Carmen Romero, the Artistic Director and Principal Dancer of Toronto’s Compañía Carmen Romero, serves as the guest co-curator for the 10th annual Duende Flamenco Festival, alongside Amirali Alibhai, Head of Performing Arts at the Aga Khan Museum and the Festival’s Artistic Director.
