Movies under the Stars events generally start in June and run one day a week until September. These are evenings bring with them a great sense of community, and are the perfect way to fit family outings into the hotter days of summer – bonus you won’t have to slather the kids in sunscreen or nag them about keeping their hats on!

Most events are free and on the same day and time each week, make note of the locations though as some community events make the rounds of local parks and venues. You’ll find plenty of family-friendly movies, please check the websites for schedules and possible cancellations.

Movies by Moonlight

Free movies in Garden Square every Wednesday at 8:00pm from June 28 to August 30. Bring your blanket and chair to cuddle up and enjoy a FREE family-friendly movie, plus pre-movie activities starting at 7:00pm. MORE

Aurora Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park will be back with summer Movies in the Park during the month of July & August. All movies are free of charge and start at dusk. MORE

Newmarket Moonlight Movies

Be sure to join the Town of Newmarket throughout the month of August for their Moonlight Movies Series, taking place at various parks throughout Newmarket. Find a spot on the grass for your lawn chairs and blankets for dusk, to enjoy a movie on a large inflatable screen, under the stars. MORE

Brampton Movies under the Stars

Bring your blanket or lawn chair to FREE family-friendly outdoor movie screenings at Chinguacousy Park, Mount Pleasant Square, and Gore Meadows Community Centre. Movie season runs during July & August.  MORE

Ajax Movies in the Park

Ajax Movies in the Park are back! Enjoy a unique, outdoor, free family cinema experience on a giant inflatable screen.  MORE

Moonlight Movies in Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill’s Moonlight Movies series is an outdoor cinema experience during August & September. It’s free and all you need to bring is a blanket or lawn chair. Movies start when the sun goes down.  MORE

Whitby Movies in the Park

Grab your blankets and popcorn and join the Town of Whitby for four unforgettable evenings, under the stars! Movies are shown on a large, outdoor screen with concert-quality sound starting at dusk. MORE

Movies on the Common

For the fifth year of our Corktown Common series, Toronto Outdoor Picture Show invites attendees to enjoy weekly screenings every Thursday from July 6 TO August 10, 2023. Please check website for schedules as some movies may not be suitable for younger audiences.  MORE

Celebration Square Movie Nights

From the end of May until early September, the whole family can enjoy a film together at Celebration Square Movie Nights. The screenings are each Thursday at 8 pm. Bring your own blankets and snacks! MORE

The Beach Village Movie Nights in the Park

Join The Beach Village for Movie Nights in the Park every Wednesday starting July 3 – August 28! You voted on your favourite movies, now come out and enjoy them with your friends and family! Experience these movies under the stars in our beautiful parks (screenings will rotate between Kew Gardens and Ivan Forrest Gardens Park). Free admission and free popcorn! MORE

Movies Under the Stars at the Blue

Enjoy a box office hit during Subaru Movies Under the Stars every Tuesday evening from July 4th to August 29th. Enjoy a family-friendly outdoor movie screening in the Village Plaza. Arrive early to explore the picturesque Village, movies start at dusk. MORE

Park Place Outdoor Movie Nights

Enjoy FREE movie nights at Park Place Barrie, located in the parking lot in front of X-Play. Select nights during July & August. Bring your own lawn chair. Movies start at Dusk with a pre-movie Magic Show from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. MORE

Ports Toronto Sail in Cinema

Canada’s Sugar Beach transforms into Toronto’s largest outdoor movie theatre. Movies are  shown under the open skies on a two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour. Event generally takes place the third weekend of August. MORE

Outdoor Movies in Regent Park

Enjoy a family friendly movie every Wednesday from July 5th-19th. Now in its 10th year Under the Stars has grown into Regent Park’s largest summer community event!  MORE

Burlington Movies under the Stars

Free outdoor movies in July & August on Thursday nights! All movies start at 9 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs and/or blanket and arrive early to reserve a spot. MORE

Oakville Movies Under the Stars

Downtown Oakville is hosting their annual Movies Under the Stars beginning June 6, 2019. Movies will be shown in Downtown Oakville at multiple venues. Check their website for more details and the summer schedule. MORE

Sorauren Outdoor Movies in the Square

The Outdoor Movie Season returns the fourth Saturday of every month June to September – this season includes Back to the Future, Casablanca, Dirty Dancing and The Iron Giant! MORE

Downsview Park Friday Night Lights

Movies Under the Stars returns to Downsview Park this year with it’s seventh year. This year the movies will be taking place by the lake. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and watch a family-friendly movies on select nights during Juy & August.  MORE

Gravenhurst Cinema under the Stars

Cinema Under The Stars has become a cherished tradition for families in Gravenhurst. More than just an outdoor movie, the Town of Gravenhurst offers a full evening of fun for families with crafts and activities ahead of each screening. Bring a cozy blanket, lawn chair, friends & family and enjoy full-length feature films totally free every Thursday evening in July & August. MORE

The following locations show movies that are not always suitable young children, but if you have a teen or even ‘baby in arms’, or that magical and elusive date night, this could still make the perfect evening outing.

Fort York Outdoor Movies
Toronto Outdoor Picture Show will launch its season of Dynamic Duos programming and its brand new, majestic outdoor screen with an opening weekend of films at one of our favourite new sites, Fort York. Watch movies under the stars in the shadow of the Gardiner and the light of Toronto Outdoor Picture Show’s magnificent, brand-new screen. MORE 

City Cinema at Yonge-Dundas Square
Every Tuesday at Yonge-Dundas Square, catch free films on the giant screen. Movies start at dusk and are preceded by a short film chosen by the National Film Board.

  1. I am a Grandmother looking for things my granddaughter could do on her vacation , on a budget. The movie in the park sounded great and then I see you have to have a Twitter account to confirm attendance. Don’t have one, don’t want one. So she misses out because I don’t want Twitter. If there is any other way to confirm, would somebody please email me thank you
