Welcome to Cold Creek Conservation Area, located in King Township, Ontario.

Cold Creek Conservation Area is an ecologically diverse and sustainable natural area. It is a model of sustainability that can be achieved by protecting and enhancing the area’s natural environment while providing outdoor education, cultural and heritage experiences and recreation.

Visit Cold Creek anytime to enjoy our 6.6 km marked nature trail. Gates are open from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday to Saturday (Closed Holidays-Refer to Calendar), and during special events.  Outside open hours you can park your vehicles at the main gate and follow the trail arrows for hours of enjoyment. Enjoy a variety of activities including:

Hiking: Explore the existing wetlands, swamps, mixed forests and tranquil Bog Boardwalk. Cold Creek offers 6.6 km of marked scenic nature trails for any beginner or seasoned hiker.

Bird Watching: Cold Creek provides excellent viewing of birds. Hundreds of species of birds take advantage of the varied habitats of wetland, forest and meadow protected in our conservation area. With 55+ bird boxes on site assisting with shelter and nesting, we are seeing a consistent rise and return of bird species, a great sign of a healthy and diverse ecosystem.

Dog Walking: Dogs are permitted at Cold Creek Conservation area; however, for the safety and enjoyment of everyone, we do insist that you keep dogs on leash at all times:

  • On trails and out of natural habitat
  • From disturbing other dogs
  • Clean up after dogs to keep trails clean and protect wildlife – waste bags are available throughout the trail
  • Keep dog controlled for the safety and comfort of other users

Picnics: Have the ultimate adventure with friends and family! Spring to fall, Cold Creek offers a picnic shelter located at the interior of the park and a variety of unique and intimate locations around the trail. Visit the park during operating hours or rent the picnic shelter for your next event.

Historic Sightseeing: Visit the Heritage Barn and the site of the Cairns Family Farmhouse. Heritage plaque on site for your reading pleasure.

Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing: With 6.6 km of beautiful scenic trails there is a trail for all ski levels. Beginners can enjoy the interior park while experts will be excited to explore the southern trails. See Rentals for more details.

Educational & Recreational Programs: The King Parks, Recreation and Culture Department hosts a series of curriculum based education, public and summer camp programs that includes everything from nature appreciation and interpretation to outdoor recreational activities and skills. At Cold Creek Conservation Area we have the unique opportunity to offer a variety of different group activities. We also give you the option of choosing and combining programs that best suit your needs;

In addition, the Township of King, Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department offers a wide variety of special Events and Workshops held at Cold Creek Conservation Area throughout the year. These events include:
