Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters without the otherwise mandatory fishing version outdoors card.
Four times a year, Canadian residents can fish in Ontario for free. This means you do not need to buy a fishing licence if you want to fish during:
Family Fishing Weekend (February 15 – 17, 2025)
Mother’s Day Weekend (May 10 & 11, 2025)
Father’s Day Weekend (June 14 & 15, 2025)
Family Fishing Week (June 28 – July 6, 2025)
During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.
There has never been a better time to introduce a friend to fishing!
Participants fishing without a license must fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees, and limits continue to apply during license-free days. Printed copies of the summary are available at license issuers and Service Ontario Centres.
