Looking for an inspiring way to spend March Break with the kids? The Royal Ontario Museum is hosting nine days of family-friendly programming from March 14–22, 2026, with hands-on activities, performances, and wildlife-inspired experiences designed for curious young minds.
Throughout the week, families can explore the Museum together while taking part in interactive programs inspired by animals, nature, and the fascinating specimens found in ROM’s collections. From face painting and art-making to meeting museum experts and capturing wildlife-inspired photos, there’s something new to discover each day.

Wildlife-Inspired Activities for Families
During March Break, ROM’s galleries transform into playful wildlife environments where kids can explore, create, and learn together with their families.
Wild Photo Walk
Daily | 10 am – 4 pm | Philosopher’s Gallery
Grab a camera and follow a photo trail through gallery scenes inspired by wildlife. Capture patterns, shapes, and animal moments throughout the Museum. Visitors can print their photos as keepsakes, and selected images will appear on digital screens throughout the gallery during the week.
Ask a ROM Expert
Daily | 10 am – 4 pm
Meet Museum experts and get an up-close look at real specimens from ROM’s collections. Each day features different discoveries, from insects and fungi to mammals and fish.
Animal Face Painting
Daily | 11 am – 3 pm
Kids can transform into their favourite animals with wildlife-themed face painting designs.
Hands-On Creative Experiences
What’s Fluttering By?
March 14–20 | 10 am – 4 pm | Earth Rangers Studio
Inspired by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, this interactive activity explores the fascinating differences between moths and butterflies. Visitors can examine real specimens, create colourful winged artwork, and take photos at a vibrant wildlife selfie station.
BASF Kids’ Lab – Chromatography Butterfly
March 21–22 | 10 am – 4 pm
Young scientists can experiment with colour through chromatography, a technique that separates pigments in inks and dyes. Participants create their own butterfly artwork while learning how colours blend and separate to form unique patterns.

Shark Sleuths
Running until March 22
Explore the world of sharks through hands-on activities that explain shark anatomy, biodiversity, and the role these ocean predators play in healthy ecosystems. Interactive stations in the WonderWorks play space introduce kids to sharks, skates, and rays through engaging exhibits.
Hike the ROM
Families can also explore the Museum with self-guided trail experiences through the galleries. Choose from themed routes such as:

International beatboxing champion Scott Jackson blends beatboxing rhythms with animal sounds in energetic live performances.
Gallivanting Giraffes

Towering giraffes on stilts roam the galleries, delighting kids and posing for photos.
Fay & Fluffy Storytime
Weekends | Chen Court
The colourful drag duo Fay Slift and Fluffy Soufflé present lively cabaret-style story readings with puppets and special guests.
March Break Camp at ROM
Families looking for a full week of programming can also register for ROM’s March Break Camp.
