Five ways to spend time with your kids this Family Day

With Family Day quickly approaching, many Canadian parents are putting their thinking hats on to brainstorm fun activities to celebrate the holiday.

While the holiday offers a fantastic opportunity to reconnect and bond with your loved ones, finding activities that will keep your littles ones entertained and out of trouble, is easier said than done.

This year, get inventive, have fun and consider these five suggestions when planning your fun-filled Family Day weekend:

Arts and Crafts: Nothing says family like getting crafty together. Whether you’re a Picasso at heart, or more of a popsicle-stick-and-glue-wonder, laughing and creating a fun memento is one way to have an unforgettable Family Day.

Outside Time: While it’s certainly cold outside, winter does not mean you should avoid the outdoors. Show your true North Canadian pride and take a walk as a family, go to a nearby park with the dog or visit your local petting zoo for some fun and education.

Meals Together: Making a meal helps teach your kids a lot of the practical skills they will need as they get older. It’s the ultimate package—more help (or mess) in the kitchen, education, and fun, all while enjoying time as a family. Opt for an indulgent treat or cook a full three-course meal. Plus – there’s always leftovers to enjoy for the week. Bon appetite!

Volunteer: There are always groups looking for others to lend a helping hand. Not only will you get to spend time as a family, you’ll also get to show your kids what giving back really means. After a busy and often indulgent holiday season, this is yet another way to teach a valuable life lesson.

Indoor Playgrounds: But if the Canadian cold is not for you, try a trip to LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Toronto. Adults can enjoy this (warm) space just as much as kids, with interactive rides, a 4D Cinema, and a Miniland, plus much more.

“A lot of family bonding happens when families come together and get creative,” says Noel Straatsma, Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Toronto. “We see it all the time at our centre. It’s not just the kids who enjoy themselves – everyone has fun building new things out of LEGO; bringing adults and kids alike together.”

No matter what you choose, time with family is never overrated.
