It’s that time of year again! Summer is here, bringing warm weather and longer evenings perfect for outdoor fun! What better way to enjoy the warmer nights than with a family movie under the stars? These fun community events usually kick off in June and run until September. Gather with friends and family and share a movie under the night sky. Most of these events are free and on the same day and time each week. Just keep an eye on the locations, as the fun sometimes moves around to different parks as well as possible cancellations. Are you ready? Grab your chairs, blankets, snacks and maybe pack a flashlight and bug spray too! Get ready for a summer of unforgettable movie nights in and around the GTA…

Brampton Saturday Night Movies

Families can enjoy two free family movies every Saturday night in June, July and August! Movies run at 6:00 pm and 8:00pm from June 14 to August 30 in Brampton’s Garden Square. Bring your blanket and chairs, and arrive early for pre-movie activities. Visit website for schedules. MORE

Celebration Square Movie Nights

From June 19 until September 4, 2025 the whole family can enjoy a film together at Celebration Square Movie Nights. The screenings are each Thursday at 8 pm, Pre-Show at 7:30pm. Bring your own blankets and snacks! MORE

Burlington Movies under the Stars

Free outdoor movies on Thursdays from July 10 to August 28! Movies start at 7 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs, blanket and bugspray. It is recommended to arrive early to reserve a spot. MORE

Aurora Movies in the Park

Back for 2025, summer Movies in the Park will bring families a free movie on August 14, 21 & 28, 2025. All movies start at dusk at Aurora Town Park (49 Wells Street). Bring your own chairs an blankets, and arrive at 7pm for pre-movie themed family activities and popcorn! MORE

Newmarket Moonlight Movies

Join the Town of Newmarket from late July and throughout August for their 2025 Moonlight Movies Series, taking place on select Mondays and Tuesdays at various parks in Newmarket. Find a spot on the grass for your lawn chairs and blankets, to enjoy a movie on a large inflatable screen, under the stars. Movies start at dusk. MORE

Moonlight Movies in Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill’s Moonlight Movies series is an outdoor cinema experience that runs each summer. It’s free and all you need to bring is a blanket or lawn chair. Movies start when the sun goes down, pre-show fun and snacks at 6:30 p.m. MORE

Whitby Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park will be back for four evenings this summer. Grab your blankets and popcorn and join the Town of Whitby on July 11 and 25 and August 8 and 22, 2025. Movies are shown on a large, outdoor screen with concert-quality sound starting at dusk. Visit website for movie schedule. MORE

Ajax Movies in the Park

Enjoy a unique, outdoor, free family cinema experience on a giant inflatable screen. The town will host three movie nights at different locations, visit their website for schedules and more details. MORE

Free Movie Nights at Evergreen Brick Works

A series of FREE outdoor movie nights at Evergreen Brick Works every Thursday in July and August. Get ready to immerse yourself in the ultimate cinematic experience with your favourite films under covered Pavilions. Movies start at 7:30pm arrive early to save your spot! MORE

The Beach Village Movie Nights in the Park

Join The Beach Village for Movie Nights in the Park on Wednesday’s starting July 9 until August 13, 2025 at Kew Gardens Park. This years movies include Mama Mia, Jumanji, and E.T.! Movies start at dusk, free admission. MORE

Movies Under the Stars at the Blue

Enjoy a box office hit during Subaru Movies Under the Stars every Tuesday evening from July 8 to August 26th. Enjoy a family-friendly outdoor movie screening in the Village Plaza. Arrive early to explore the picturesque Village, movies start at dusk. MORE

Meaford Movies Under the Stars

Residents and visitors are invited to three special nights in August and September, each a different location in Meaford. MORE

Wasaga Beach Movies Under the Stars

Every Wednesday in July & August at dusk. Enjoy a free outdoor movie experience at the park behind 120 Glenwood (Municipal Offices). Crafts, popcorn, special guests, and more under the stars. MORE

Outdoor Movies in Regent Park

Enjoy a family friendly movie on Wednesday, July 9th, 16th and 23rd – plus a special screening at Scarborough’s Milliken Park on Friday, July 25. Now in its 12th year Under the Stars has grown into Regent Park’s largest summer community event!  MORE

Downsview Park Friday Night Lights

One of the Toronto’s favourite summer traditions! Free Flicks at Harbourfront Centre will present free movies by the lake every Tuesday night from July 8 to August 26.  MORE

Sorauren Outdoor Movies in the Square

The Sorauren Outdoor Movie Season returns to the Town Square for 2025! Movies will be presented on the fourth Saturday of June, July, August and September. Movies start at dusk, but show up early for special pre-show performances including dance, comedy, music and more! MORE

Gravenhurst Cinema under the Stars

Cinema Under The Stars has become a cherished tradition for families in Gravenhurst. More than just an outdoor movie, the Town of Gravenhurst offers a full evening of fun for families with crafts and activities ahead of each screening. Bring a cozy blanket, lawn chair, friends & family and enjoy full-length feature films totally free every Thursday evening in July & August. MORE

Ports Toronto Sail in Cinema

Canada’s Sugar Beach transforms into Toronto’s largest outdoor movie theatre. Movies are  shown under the open skies on a two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour. Event generally takes place the third weekend of August. MORE

The following locations show movies that are not always suitable young children, but if you have a teen or even ‘baby in arms’, or that magical and elusive date night, this could still make the perfect evening outing.

Fort York Outdoor Movies

Toronto Outdoor Picture Show’s 15th anniversary When We Were Young programme opena at Fort York from June 12-17, 2025 at Fort York. Watch movies under the stars in the shadow of the Gardiner and the light of Toronto Outdoor Picture Show’s magnificent screen. MORE

For the sixth year of our Corktown Common series, Toronto Outdoor Picture Show invites attendees to enjoy weekly screenings every Thursday from July 3 to August 7, 2025. Please check website for schedules as some movies may not be suitable for younger audiences.  MORE

City Cinema at Yonge-Dundas Square

Every Tuesday at Yonge-Dundas Square, catch free films on the giant screen. Movies start at dusk and are preceded by a short film chosen by the National Film Board.
