A Star-Studded Night at the Port Lands for the Official Toronto Premiere Event for Cirque du Soleil’s New Big Top Show VOLTA
Cirque du Soleil celebrated its return to the Toronto Port Lands last night with a star-‐studded premiere event for its latest Big Top production, VOLTA. The action-‐packed production hosted an excited crowd of local celebrities yesterday, including: Jimmy Rankin, members of Walk Off The Earth, Blue Rodeo’s Bazil Donovan, cast members from Letterkenny, Lawrence Hill, Louise Pitre, Steve Patterson, John Catucci, Sean Cullen, Canadian Olympians Calynn Irwin, Conrad Linenhan and Derek Livingston, Toronto Argonaut players and more. All premiere attendees received a copy of the highly anticipated VOLTA soundtrack, with International electronic group M83, as composer and musical director for the show. The album also launched last night and is now available on iTunes. VOLTA is a spellbinding story about the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail. Inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of action sports, VOLTA features a number of thrilling disciplines including BMX, parkour, shape diving, roller skating, rope skipping and more. The production tells a spellbinding story about the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail. It is a story of transformation and is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and the power of the group to make that possible. Inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of action sports, the show weaves acrobatics into a visually striking world driven by a stirring melodic score.
WAZ, a popular gameshow host, has lost touch with his inner self in the pursuit of fame. But as doubt sets in, WAZ is enlightened by childhood memories as he encounters FREE SPIRITS who open doors to his inner soul he has long kept shut. On his high-‐voltage search for meaning, will WAZ find the courage to relinquish his fame, reconnect with his true self, and shine bright?[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
