Treat the family to a day out celebrating fall and it’s local harvest of delicious Ontario apples! See below for a handy list of apple orchards in the GTA and Southern Ontario. Popular Varieties of Apples in Ontario

McIntosh: a deep red color with a green background.
Honeycrisp: sweet and crisp, the perfect apple for baking and snacking. Ready for picking mid to late September.
Red Delicious: deep red, elongated shaped and five bumps on bottom.
Empire: dark red, blush with a splash of yellow or green.
Idared: bright red with greenish-yellow patches.
Crispin (or Mutsu): greenish-yellow exterior with an orange blush.
Golden Delicious: yellow or greenish-yellow exterior, elongated shape, five bumps on bottom.
Spartan: dark red skin.
Cortland: bright red with yellow cheek.
Northern Spy: red-striped skin with green color. Northern Spy is the number 1 baking apple.

Apple Season typically runs from Late August to the end of October, with peak season mid to late September. Check with your local farm for their picking season, and always call ahead to check hours and varieties available as they can change each year. Please note that many locations do not allow pets.

Albion Orchards & Country Market

Albion Orchards offers a wide variety of apple. It’s a family-friendly destination with children’s activities, farm animals to visit, and farm fresh produce. Located just outside Toronto, PYO is available on weekends and Holidays only, and is available on a first come, first served basis. Pick Your Own Apples typically ranges from late summer to fall. Please note that PYO is cash only.

Andrews’ Scenic Acres

Andrews’ Scenic Acres features walking trails, wagon-rides, playground, animal corral, straw mountain climb, corn maze and great photo opportunities year-round. Open weekends only, the farm offers a variety of pick-your-own crops, including apple-picking during the fall season as well as a farm market that offers fresh produce and goods.

Applewood Farm Winery

A family run, family friendly farm and winery. Applewood Farm & Winery is a great destination for young and old to enjoy a little bit of the country, close to the city. Visitors can enjoy the apple orchard and learn more about their winemaking process and shop their wines at the shop

Archibald Orchards

Archibald Orchards offers apple picking in a charming rural setting. They have a selection of apple varieties and a winery on-site. The orchard will be open to the public beginning September 9, 2023 for apple season.

Barrie Hill Farms

Barrie Hill Farms offers a wide variety of fruits including apples for picking. They have a market and often include additional activities during the harvest season. The farm is usually open for apple picking in late summer and fall.

Brooks Farms

Brooks Farms is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and famous for it’s amazing fall festival. In addition to apple picking, they offer various farm fun attractions and activities for kids. The farm market features fresh produce and treats. Apple-picking season typically runs from late summer into the fall.

Carl Laidlaw Orchards

Carl Laidlaw Orchards offers a traditional apple-picking experience with over 20 varieties of apples. While they focus on apple picking, additional activities are also available for families like wagon rides, corn maze, grain table, hale bales for play, BBQ Corn on the cob and hot dogs, apple cider and more!

Chudleigh’s Apple Farm

Chudleigh’s Apple Farm is renowned for its apple orchards and family activities. They offer various attractions, farm animals, and a bakery. The picking season usually starts in late summer and continues into fall.

Dixie Orchards

Dixie Orchards provides a scenic location offering pick-your-own apples, pumpkins and hazelnuts when in season. Walk through their sunflower fields, get lost in the corn maze or take a wagon ride around the farm.

Downey’s Strawberry & Apple Farm

Downey’s Strawberry & Apple Farm offers both strawberries and apples for picking. With 13 varieties of apples, the season opens mid-August and runs to around mid-October. The farm is open daily and also offers wagon rides, apple cider and candy apples.

Homestead Orchards

Homestead Orchards offers an apple picking experience that begins in late summer and runs until early October. The location also has a farmers market and bakery.

Nature’s Bounty Farm

Nature’s Bounty Farm offers apple picking in a scenic countryside setting. Opening for the season on September 5, 2023, this picturesque orchard located on the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine has more than 20 varieties of apples. Families can enjoy the tradition of picking their own apples, sipping cider, and wandering the orchards.

Organics Farm

Organics Farm offers organic apple picking and promotes sustainable practices. The farm features a variety of apples and fresh farm bakery and shop on site.

Farmers Pantry

Farmers Pantry in Thornbury offers a large variety of Pick Your Own Apples from their orchards. The farm also features fun activities, gift shop and market, cedar maze, sand hills and more.

Pine Farms Orchard

Pine Farms Orchard provides a charming apple-picking experience in a peaceful setting beginning mid-August each year. The farm also has a farmers market, cafe and bake shop on site.

Pingle’s Farm Market

Pingle’s Farm Market is known for its variety of activities, including apple picking. They offer fun activities for kids and families, as well as a popular fall festival. The farm also has a year round farm shop and bakery on site. Apple picking usually opens in late summer.

Watson Farms

Watson Farms is known for its fresh produce and apple picking, as well as it’s fun activities for the whole family. Visit their petting zoo, play in the newly upgraded “Watsonland”, take a wagon ride or pose for a photo! The farm also has a sunflower maze each year and an on-site farm market.

Willis Family Fruit Farm

Willis Family Fruit Farm is an old-fashioned family-friendly farm that offers apple picking and wagon rides. Opening for the season on September 4, 2023.
