On Saturday, February 7, 2026, your Toronto Zoo is joining the international celebration of efforts to Reverse the Red for at risk species, and sharing our contributions to conserving Canadian species!
This year, for Reverse the Red Day, we are proud to announce that we are making an official Species Pledge to Reverse the Red for the critically endangered Vancouver Island marmot.
Working with our key partners, the Marmot Recovery Foundation and the Wilder Institute, marmot populations have grown from as few as 22 individuals to approximately 427 in the wild, now inhabiting numerous mountains across Vancouver Island. This progress is remarkable, but there is still much work to be done to secure the species’ long-term recovery.
