A Spectacular Holiday Celebration of Culture and Art: Oriental Legend Makes Historic Canadian Debut at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre on Dec 12, 2025

Toronto, ON – Toronto audiences are set for a breathtaking cultural event this holiday season as the internationally acclaimed dance drama Oriental Legend makes its long-awaited Canadian debut at the Elgin Theatre on December 12 and 13. Presented by the China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG), and performed by the world renowned Beijing Dance Drama & Opera Theatre, this award-winning production blends dazzling choreography, cinematic stagecraft, and a soul-stirring narrative to deliver an unforgettable night of beauty and emotion in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Set in the ancient Silk Road city of Jingjue, Oriental Legend tells an epic story of courage, friendship, and unity. Feng, a border general of the Han Dynasty; Jian Te, the son of a northern chieftain; and Chun Jun, the daughter of Jingjue’s ruler, move from confrontation to camaraderie—transforming from adversaries into allies and ultimately into lifelong kindred spirits. Their journey unfolds through mesmerizing dance sequences that transcend language and time, celebrating humanity’s enduring quest for peace and understanding.

Infused with the grace of Han-Tang classical dance and the vibrant energy of Western Regions-inspired “Lantern Dance,” the production is a visual feast that captures the splendor of China’s ancient civilizations while embracing the spirit of multicultural artistry. Audiences will witness a seamless fusion of history, movement, and emotion—brought to life by masterful dancers, stunning costumes, and immersive lighting and music.

Since its premiere in 2021, Oriental Legend has toured more than 110 cities across China, captivating over 100,000 theatre-goers and generating more than 600 million online impressions. Its theme song, Don’t Forget Each Other—performed by celebrated vocalists Ayanga and Tan Weiwei—adds a haunting layer of emotion to this breathtaking work. The production has earned two of China’s highest artistic honors, including the prestigious “Excellent Work Award,” and opened Hong Kong’s inaugural Chinese Culture Festival in 2024 to glowing international acclaim.

Beyond its artistry, Oriental Legend brings history to life—inviting audiences to discover ancient relics, imperial aesthetics, and the cultural spirit of the Western Regions. Its arrival in Toronto marks not only a milestone in cultural exchange but also a luminous addition to the city’s festive performing-arts calendar.
