Get Set for The 34th Annual Word On The Street Festival

The 34th Annual Word On The Street Festival returns to Queen’s Park on May 27th & 28th! Hosted annually since 1990 in downtown Toronto, “WOTS” is a free community street festival that celebrates the stories that connect us.

Featuring Canadian and Indigenous authors, an outdoor marketplace for books and magazines, and dedicated children’s programming, The Word On The Street was voted one of the city’s Best Local Festivals in 2022. With 250+ authors and exhibitors, and welcoming tens of thousands of visitors each year, WOTS is Canada’s largest open-air book festival!

The 2023 festival will take place across two days, Saturday May 27th from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday May 28th from 10:00AM – 5:00 PM, with featured readings and panels by more than 100 authors, poets, and journalists.

Programming for 2023 includes a series of virtual workshops leading up to the annual festival weekend, presented by Toronto Metropolitan University’s Chang School of Continuing Education. Additional programming partners include the Toronto Public Library, Harlequin, Ontario Creates, Diaspora Dialogues, Luminato Festival, Writers’ Trust of Canada, Owlkids, Soapbox Science, The Ripple Foundation, and StoryPlanet.

The outdoor marketplace features publishers, bookstores, magazines, independent authors, literacy organizations, writers’ groups, food vendors, and more!

The Word On The Street is supported by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, and Ontario Creates. We are also a grateful recipient of the Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Tourism Relief Fund from the Government of Canada.

As a registered charitable organization, the Toronto Book and Magazine Festival promotes literacy, champions Canadian and Indigenous writing, and creates space for a community of readers to share their passion for the written word.

This work would not be possible without the generosity of our community of sponsors and donors. Major sponsors include the Toronto Star, Harlequin, Owlkids, and the Toronto Public Library. Penguin Random House Canada is the lead accessibility sponsor for the 2023 festival.

The Word On The Street Toronto is an annual celebration of storytelling, ideas and imagination, hosting Canada’s largest FREE book and magazine festival, and promoting great books by Canadian and Indigenous authors year-round.
