During the February Ontario Family Ice Fishing Event families can try ice fishing without the need for a fishing license! This is a great way to try out the fun sport together as a family.
Introduce a friend to fishing!
Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters without the otherwise mandatory fishing version outdoors card. The Ontario Government has designated four periods throughout the year as license-free. Head out in February to experience ice-fishing!
- Family Fishing Weekend (February 15 – 17, 2025)
- Mother’s Day Weekend (May 10 & 11, 2025)
- Father’s Day Weekend (June 14 & 15, 2025)
- Family Fishing Week (June 28 – July 6, 2025)
During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.
There has never been a better time to introduce a friend to fishing!
Participants fishing without a license must fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during license-free days. Printed copies of the summary are available at licence issuers and ServiceOntario Centres.
