Ontario Family Fishing Events

During the Ontario Family Fishing Events families can try fishing without the need for a fishing license! This is great way to try out the fun sport together as a family.

FOUR Times a Year Family Fishing Events

Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters without the otherwise mandatory fishing version outdoors card. New this year, the Ontario Government has designated four periods throughout the year as license-free:

  • Family Fishing Weekend (February 15 – 17, 2025)
  • Mother’s Day Weekend (May 10 & 11, 2025)
  • Father’s Day Weekend (June 14 & 15, 2025)
  • Family Fishing Week (June 28 – July 6, 2025)

During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.

There has never been a better time to introduce a friend to fishing!

Participants fishing without a license must fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees, and limits continue to apply during license-free days. Printed copies of the summary are available at license issuers and ServiceOntario Centres.

Fishing Events hosted across Ontario

Events such as festivals, clinics, derbies, and workshops are hosted across the province. To find an event near you, visit the Ontario Family Fishing website. Each event provides a great opportunity to get outside, spend some wholesome time with the family, and develop a strong connection with conservation through the enjoyment of fishing.
