Stay at Home Fun: Visit a Virtual Aquarium

Visit a Virtual Aquarium

Stuck at home with nothing to do during COVID-19 closures? Why not take a virtual tour of some of the most notable aquariums across North America! Get to know the animals, explore the exhibits and check back each day to see what your favourites are up to. You’ll find Penguins, Otters, Sharks and more that can be viewed through live streaming webcams, plus some also offer virtual tours. Have we missed any? Comment below to share with our readers.

Shedd Aquarium

The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has received some notoriety recently by giving their penguins a free pass to explore the centre and visit their neighbours!

The aquarium has stated that it will be offering ways for the public to stay connected during the closure, including frequent looks at animals and work behind-the-scenes via Shedd’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as other digital resources including videos, live web cams and educational materials.

Ripley's Aquarium Canada

A little closer to home, if you enjoy the sharks at Ripley’s Aquarium Canada, located in Toronto next to the CN Tower, you can visit their website to view the live Shark cam. We do hope they will add more to their virtual offerings soon!

Monterey Bay

Monterey Bay Aquarium in California, offers webcams of many of it’s aquatic residents – watch live streams of Sharks, Otters, Penguins, Sea turtles… anytime day or night.

Be delighted by the antics of our sea otters or mellow out to the hypnotic drifting of our jellies. With ten live cams to choose from, you can experience the wonder of the ocean no matter where you are.

National Aquarium

See the World from below the surface! The National Aquarium in Baltimore offers both a virtual tour of the facility as well as webcams. View the Blacktip Reef Cam, Jellies Invasion Cam and the Pacific Coral Reef Cam.

Oregon Coast Aquarium

Another aquarium worth a virtual visit is the Oregan Coast Aquarium in Newport. You’ll find High-Definition live feeds including, the Sea Otter Cam (we didn’t spot him – tell us if you did!), Sea-Bird Cam and Shark Cam.

Seattle Aquarium

Visit the famous Seattle Aquarium from the comfort of your own living room! The aquarium’s website offers a chance to watch their harbor seals and sea otters on live streaming webcams, as well as a youtube channel with more videos from the facility.
