National Indigenous Peoples Day

A night of rhythm, roots and recognition.

Celebrate Indigenous culture, music, and tradition on June 21 at Celebration Square, including a host of exciting indigenous voices, and featuring a powerful headline performance by Tanya Tagaq – Polaris Music Prize & JUNO award-winning Inuk throat singer known for her raw, genre-defying sound.

All programming in collaboration with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

Some of the most dynamic Indigenous voices in Canada take the saugaLIVE Stage for an evening of powerful music and storytelling. From traditional hand drumming to genre-blending throat singing, this lineup will move you – mind, body and spirit. Returning favourites and new voices come together for a night you won’t want to miss, hosted by Indigenous youth advocate and content creator Kairyn Potts.

Event Schedule:
5:00 p.m. – DJ Mattmac & Manitou Mkwa Singers Opening Performance
5:25 p.m. – Official Ceremony
5:45 p.m. – Manitou Mkwa Singers, JUNO-nominated group bringing powerful hand drum and round dance traditions
6:15 p.m. – MR. SAUGA, Local hip-hop force delivering beats and bars with power
7:15 p.m. – Lacey Hill, Soulful voice and magnetic presence from Six Nations of the Grand River
8:00 p.m. – Tanya Tagaq,Polaris Prize-winning Inuk artist delivering raw, electrifying throat singing like no other

Catch the premiere of a new large-scale artwork by Métis craftsperson, Sawmill Sid
Shop handcrafted goods, jewelry and more at the Artisan Marketplace, showcasing the work of Indigenous makers
Make a splash in the fountain, open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. – a great way to cool down and have fun
