You’ve most likely seen snow painting activities at winter festivals and other outdoor family events. Snow painting is a fun and creative winter activity that you can do at home. It’s cheap, easy and get’s the kids outside in the fresh air during the long winter months.

How to Snow Paint

Food Colour method

  1. Food Colour in red, blue and yellow
  2. Water
  3. Three spray bottles, or squirt bottles (you can get these at your local dollar store)
  4. Fill each bottle with cold water and a few drops of food colouring

Kool-Aid Method

  • Kool-Aid packets in different colours
  • Water
  • Spray bottles or squirt bottles.
  • Fill each bottle with cold water and a packet of kool-aid and mix.

Once you’ve got your ‘paints’ ready head on out and spray (or squirt) onto the snow. Teach your kids about colour mixing and see how many new colours they can create with red, blue and yellow. Make a snow rainbow, decorate a snow sculpture and take pictures to capture their colourful works of art!
