We are celebrating the 37th Annual Word on the Street Festival with a Kids Book Bundle Giveaway!
The Word On The Street Festival returns to David Pecaut Square in downtown Toronto on September 26 & 27, 2026! Canada’s largest free outdoor book and magazine festival brings together readers, writers, publishers and book lovers for a weekend celebrating stories, ideas and the joy of reading.
Families will find plenty to enjoy throughout the weekend, with dedicated programming for young readers. The Young Readers Tent features lively picture book read-alouds, author appearances and sessions for kids of different ages, with themes ranging from animals and transportation to Halloween, soccer and middle-grade fiction. Young readers can also join in a special celebration marking 50 years of Owlkids.
Over at the Kids Activity Tent, stories come to life through hands-on activities and creative workshops. Kids can build their own bug, make dragon puppets, try cartoon drawing, create bookmarks, learn how to make a graphic novel and more.
The Toronto Public Library will also be at the festival with its much-loved Big Blue bookmobile, along with special activities encouraging families to connect, explore and discover new reads.
Curious kids and grown-ups can stop by Soapbox Science @ WOTS, where scientists step outside the lab to share their research and answer questions in an informal, interactive setting.
Beyond the kids’ programming, families can browse a huge outdoor marketplace filled with publishers, bookstores, authors and literary organizations, making it a great place to discover new favourites and stock up on books.
The festival is 100% free to attend and takes place at David Pecaut Square, 215 King Street West, Toronto.
